We chose this image from Patrick Demarchelier's photo shoot: Indian Summer. Situated in India, Demarchelier illustrates the perfect combination of tranquillity, beauty and spice. The dominating fiery colours create a warm ethnic atmosphere.
This image is an inspiration because it embraces culture and diversity within a perfect "Indian-market" setting. Gemma Ward not only plays her role as a model by presenting the fashions exquisitely but also by involving herself acitively with the surrounding Indian community.

Calvin Klein Defines Simplicity

Calvin Klein Collection
Spring 2011
Ready-to-Wear

The collection was an embodiment of effortless sensual silhouettes and fabrics. Francisco Costa used minimal accessories and make-up to achieve his chic approach to the Calvin Klein collection.

The show opened with an appearance of a crisp white jump suit against a seamless backdrop. Francisco Costa illustrated his idea of minimalistic sophistication. Using shades of navy, black, wheat and dove white he donned a perfectly tailored collection.  An outrageous appearance of starfish orange created an interesting twist to the subtlety of the collection.

Variations of both knee and ankle length shift dresses and tunics emerged, as well as layered vests, and loosely fitted trousers were spotted. The range consisted of suitable attire that can easily be taken from day to nightwear.

"It’s not about right or wrong, it’s about the right time or the wrong time".
The essence of this statement by Calvin Klein elegantly translates his refreshing and refined assortment.

Tortured Seas

Water and oil
Photographed by Steven Meisel
Vogue Italia

Steven Meisel’s shoot in the August 2010 issue of Vogue Italia raised controversial awareness. The 24 page spread featuring model Kristen McMenamy displayed scenes of the devastating oil spill that happened on the Gulf of Mexico. His particular use of garments and accessories was given as a metaphor for the hundreds of birds destroyed in the spill.

Steven Meisels magnificent use of photography portrays the gruesome and realistic world we live in.  Images of oil-flooded beaches against a miserable dark backdrop evoke feelings of desperation and hopelessness.

We think that this shoot was highly successful because whilst Meisel's enlightened fashion followers about world events, at the same time he educated newsreaders from a fashion perspective.

Furthermore, Steven Meisel has broadened the definition of fashion by changing people’s perception of a shallow fashion industry to a both sensitive and aware trade. He has given the fashion world depth and meaning by combining both fashion and world tragedies.

Steven Meisel is considered to be one of the most successful fashion photographers in the industry. We believe because of his reputation this ‘Water and Oil’ shoot may have raised a much greater awareness to the world. As consequence to this shoot it encourages people to take initiative and help clean up and care for the world.
